Athletes learn to cope with the end of a career in sports

Rick McFadden has participated in sports his entire life. The University of Akron men's basketball assistant coach started his collegiate athletic career as the scout team quarterback for the Ohio State football team his freshman year. McFadden then transferred to UA and played basketball for three seasons.

The University of Akron football team is undergoing a major offensive overhaul. With quarterback Luke Getsy gone, the Zips will not only have to find a new quarterback but integrate a new offensive system. Under Getsy, a classic drop-back passer with the elusiveness of a statue, the Zips moved the ball with a traditional offensive scheme where the quarterback passes and the running back chews up yards on the ground.

Zips top Northeast Ohio teams and sweep season's first home meet

The University of Akron track and field team hosted the Northeast Ohio Quad Saturday at Lee Jackson Field. Kent State, Youngstown State and Ashland returned to Akron as the main competition, but inclement weather became the biggest factor on a day that saw the Zips move from outdoors to inside the Athletics Field House.
