The University of Akron golf team secured its place in school history Monday, capturing a record third win of the season at the Wolf Run Intercollegiate tournament in Indiana. Four Zips golfers placed in the top five, propelling the team to a first-place score of 616.
The baseball team's season is about halfway through, but its remaining games are the most crucial. The Zips (15-11, 3-6 MAC) began an 11-game road trip Wednesday against Youngstown State. Coach Pat Bangtson and his team don't fear the long road swing. "The guys saw the schedule before the season, they have prepared themselves all along," Bangtson said.
With the playoff seeding set, the biggest race in the NBA now - besides the one where they play for the Larry O'Brien trophy - is the MVP battle. The past three seasons, the MVP races have been very close. This year, much like last year, the race is narrowed down to two real contenders: two-time reigning MVP Steve Nash and Dirk Nowitzki (sorry Kobe and LeBron fans).
