Ex-Residence Life employee, Shaun Harkness, allegedly installed a camera in a dorm shower

A former residence life coordinator at the University of Akron was arrested on Oct. 21 for installing a camera in an Orr Hall shower and stealing pictures of students out of their dorm rooms. Shaun Harkness, 28 who worked for UA from July 2003 to July 2006 until he left to take a similar position at Northern Illinois University, was indicted in Summit County Court of the Common Pleas Monday on 10 counts of burglary, two counts of extortion and two counts of voyeurism for his actions between August 2005 and June 2006.

Students honor Veterans Day

Veterans Day is a day of remembrance. To honor those who have served our country, the University of Akron Army ROTC program is conducting a ceremony. "The idea is to honor all that have served," said Lieutenant Colonel Rick Young. " We do it for community outreach.

Education students gain insight into writing a book

Vanita Oelschlager, the College of Education literacy program's new writer-in-residence, spoke to students early Wednesday morning on how the she goes about writing a book. Oelschlager spoke about incorporating her life experiences and time helping her husband Jim, who has multiple sclerosis.

Police station no longer safe

A woman was robbed at the most unlikely place Tuesday night: the Akron Police Department. A city of Akron Police dispatcher was attacked. She was knocked to the ground and robbed as she tried to enter the police building on 217 S. High Street, according to reports.

Food drive boxes elude students

Until Nov. 17, the homeless people of Akron need your help. Well, to be honest, they could use your help all the time. Until the 17th, however, the Paralegal Student Association is running a canned food drive for the Haven of Rest. The drop-off boxes are located in and around the Polsky Building.
