According to Binienda this type of research is often done by prestigious schools.
"UA can compete with all the top colleges in the country, such as Stanford and Harvard. It will show that not only will our solutions be accepted but actually put in use."
Binienda also said these types of projects are attractive to current and potential students.
"Students are very excited to be a part of this project."
"The project also helps many of students find work after college," he said. "Some have gone on to work with Toyota and Formula One. The university and students have much to gain from these types of grants."
The engine component testing is currently underway and will finish in 2011. However, Binienda added that the engineering department is always looking for new students to help out with the project.
"We are looking for graduate students and undergrad students in the math, physics and engineering fields to help out with the testing," Binienda said. "The University of Akron is showing its true potential by working on such advanced projects for the U.S. Government. We are competitors in all fields of study, no matter what other schools might be in the same contention."
